A gem

Kentmere 100 might be a "value" film, but don't let that fool you. It has lovely balanced dynamic range- plenty to work with without being too keen to crush the shadows or clip the highlights when shot at box speed.

With a decent scan, there's a ton of detail to excavate, even at the extremes. It feels like it tends to the higher contrast end, but tastefully so.

The tonality is pleasing and smooth and grain is pleasant and inoffensive, even with a non-solvent developer like rodinal (which tends to emphasise the grain edges a bit more). The images with this review are my standard 60 minutes in 500ml of 100+1 rodinal (with a few inversions at 30 mins) lazy approach and I couldn't be more impressed.

Just because it's not one of the more pricey and esoteric films doesn't mean you should overlook it. Lots to like.
